Cuban doctors seen alive, abductors demanding sh. 150m

Al-shabaab militants at believed to be responsible for abduction of the two Cuban doctors in Mandera are now demanding a ransom of sh. 150m.

Elders who went deep to remote area between the towns of Buale and El-Ade in Jubaland have come with the ransom report to enable secure their freedom.

These elders who are in negotiations with the abductors announced that they saw the two Cuban medics Herera Corea and surgeon Landy Rodriguez still alive.

“They seem to be under the care and offering medical care services to the locals,” said a security official who cited the elders’ message.

However, officials in Mandera trashed such claims as not mature and farfetched saying this was not an official position as of now.

Herera Corea and surgeon Landy Rodriguez were abducted on their way to their work place from home in Mandera County on April 12, 2018.

Further reports from officials have indicated that authorities in Kenya have sent back the elders seeking to further negotiate the ransom downwards.
