SportPesa betting firm is among those affected by the recent suspension of none-compliant betting firms in the country.
The state made good its threat and poured cold water on approximately 27 major players in the betting industry which it thinks are yet to be cleared to operate.
The betting firms therefore are required to meet all renewal requirements for them to be able to get back their operational licenses.
“We wish to inform you that the licenses for the following betting firms were not renewed until they meet the outstanding renewal requirements as well as outcome of ongoing due diligence to determine if they are fit and proper to hold a license from this board.” said Wambua.

Consequently, On the Wednesday July 10th, a directive by the Betting Control and Licensing Board led by Liti Wanbua was issued suspending their pay bills and short codes until fully cleared.
Those which faced the wrath of the state are among other big players- SportPesa, Elitebet, Betin , Betway, Betpawa, PremierBet, Atari.
Finance Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich had earlier proposed a 10% excise duty on betting for every amount involved in their bid to check on the negative effects of gambling activity in the country.
