“Congratulations Harambee Starlets for the magnificent performance in the CECAFA championship. You have brought glory to the nation and we are proud of you. To us, you stand tall as legends, and to the continent, you are definitely champions,” Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho posted.

Kenyan National female side Harambee Starlets, on Monday November 25th, made history after emerging the CECAFA champions for the very first time.

This is after the girls mercilessly hammered their rivals Tanzania 2-0 during the finals, a win that was largely attributed to super-sub Jentrix Shikangwa who came in later to open the scoring from the spot in the 70th minute.

Interestingly, Starlets completed the championships without conceding a single goal. See below how they have been performing all through-

Kenya 2-0 Ethiopia

Kenya 12-0 Djibouti

Kenya 3-0 Uganda

Kenya 5-0 Burundi

Kenya 2-0 Tanzania

After the results, sections of leaders took to twitter and other social platforms to pile praises on the queens for their historic results.

“Congratulations Harambee Starlets for the magnificent performance in the CECAFA championship. You have brought glory to the nation and we are proud of you. To us, you stand tall as legends, and to the continent, you are definitely champions,” Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho posted.

“Congratulations to Harambee Starlets who have won the CECAFA Women’s Championship after beating Tanzania 2-0 in today’s final. Well done ladies. You are one more reason why I am proud to be a Kenyan,” stated Senator Cleophas Malala.

The win came shortly after the team got nominated for the women’s national team by the Confederation of African Football (Caf). This was the second time the team received the nomination in three years.
