“Due to the rampant cases of insecurity in Juja and total failure of the relevant authorities to protect comrades and their properties we call upon all the students to join in a peaceful demonstration on Monday at 9.30 am,” read the memo from student leadership JKUSA.

The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) main campus along Thika Superhighway at Juja has been shut down.

The institution was on Monday Nov 11th morning closed indefinitely after students went on rampage.

Students protesting against an incident where one of them was stabbed, went on loose engaging police in an ugly and unexpected long hours confrontation.

According to sources within the students leadership circles, the protests was fueled by the fact that, on several occasions they have been robbed by machete-wielding-thugs but authorities had done nothing.

“Due to the rampant cases of insecurity in Juja and total failure of the relevant authorities to protect comrades and their properties we call upon all the students to join in a peaceful demonstration on Monday at 9.30 am,” read the memo from student leadership JKUSA.

Police had to lobby teargas in the air to be able to finally contain the situation which had caused a massive traffic snarl up along the busy Thika Superhighway.

Immediately, the university’s administration ordered the closure of the school until further notice.
