One form 4 candidate in Kakamega Ciunty could not see a day after his examinations when angry mob lynched him to death at Sigalagala market.

The Seventeen-year-old Rodgers Bett on Saturday evening was slashed to death by an angry  over claims he had stolen a mobile phone from one local.

According to the Standard, Bett, a student at Burendwa Secondary School had just finished sitting for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) last Friday.

“They killed my son claiming he is a thief and that’s not true. He had just finished sitting his KCSE exams and we knew he was going to uplift the family in future but that dream has been cut short. We are not happy with what the mob did to our son,”  Beatrice Khalenya, the deceased’s mother told the Standard.

 She has since termed the killing as that of mistaken identity saying the diseased has never been convicted before.

Police led by Shinyalu Sub County Police Commander Robert Makau confirmed the incident saying a businessman by the name Makau in the area had raised a complaine that the student stole his mobile phone.

That the phone had been off and two days later after tracking it again, they located it and found in his (suspect’s) house when he ran away from police before the mob took away his life.

“We later recovered the phone from his girlfriend,” said Makau who further divulged that suspect succumbed while at  Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital where his body is lying at the morgue.
