Dr Sechere teamed up with Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa after the latter made a pledge to donate a bus to the cub during the burial of club legend Joe Kadenge last year.

The bus straight from the assembly line, which will officially be handed over to the club by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr Wamalwa at a date to be announced, arrived in Nairobi from China last week having covered only 480km (Mombasa-Nairobi distance).

The donation makes the devolution CS the first high-profile personality from western Kenya, where the team has its base, to make a major contribution to the AFC Leopards after the exit two decades ago of former influential chairman, Mr Alfred Sambu, now MP for Webuye East.

Going forward, Mr Wamalwa says he will be involved in the club’s development to make it the biggest football club in Africa. The CS wants fans of the team to always rally behind the team it by going to the stadium in large numbers.

The acquisition of the bus makes AFC Leopards the only club in the country with two modern buses.

The arrival of the bus is a signal of the good days ahead for the club, which is in the process of securing a sponsor to make it financially stable.

The gesture by Dr Sechere is a relief after the club missed out on two major international sponsorship last year, which with friends, he had secured for the club. The club missed out two sponsorship deals from Malaysia and Mexico on logistical grounds.

Dr Sechere has undertaken to source a sponsor for the club to make it financially stable and enable the youth of this country to use their talents gainfully.
