“I think the reason is he had a different succession plan for the community and that Ruto could NOT be the one,” Ruto stated.
Speaking exclusively on Citizen Tv interview with Wahiga Mwaura on Thursday Feb 6th, Ruto revealed that their political diffrences with Moi started immediately he announced in a Ravin rally that he was ready to become the president of Kenya in 2005. Moi had retired from active politics.
Ruto went ahead to claim on anational Tv that Moi preferred other senior politicians to succeed him e.g Henry Kosgey or Nicholas Biwot.
“I think the reason is he had a different succession plan for the community and that Ruto could not be the one,” Ruto stated.
“Well, I remember him sending people to my place and around to ask why I wanted to run and I asked them one question. Is Moi running, does he want to vie? If yes then I am ready to step down for him,” Ruto recalled.
When they were unable to answer that question, he told them off with one assurance that he will leave community politics for them since he was interested in the national competition. “ I told them they go on with the local politics as I go for the presidency”.
The DP accused Moi and family of inciting the community against his political life recalling how Moi said he could not make a leader.
On his relationship with son of the second president Gideon Moi, Ruto instead chose not to wade into such a discussion until Moi is laid to rest.
