“He was very humbled and talented. Sadly, just like any other musician, he never invested the cash. He lived large and when he finally parted ways with Maliza Umaskini, he had nothing,” Roncliff Odit stated.

Kenyan award winning music star Dennis Mwangi or Papa Dennis died a financially struggling man.

Friends who coalesced around him have painted a completely different picture of the artist saying he was not what the public thought of him.

Dennis’ body was identified in Pangani’s Ngara in Nairobi last Friday at around 12.30 when fellow Gospel musician Daddy Owen publicised his sudden demise.

Speaking to Jihami.com on Saturday Feb 8th, BBC Journalist Roncliffe Odit mentioned that he knew Papa Dennis well and that he played his first track at QFM.

Odit disclosed that Dennis was broke to the core and that he was not what many thought he was since money had become a problem. He never invested just like many musicians.

“I was among the first presenters to play his songs when I was working in QFM, he was also a personal friend and I knew him when he was first signed by Maliza Umaskini.

“He was very humbled and talented. Sadly, just like any other musician, he never invested the cash. He lived large and when he finally parted ways with Maliza Umaskini, he had nothing,” Roncliff Odit stated.

“Life became very hard. The society out here thinks he is loaded while in the real sense, he had nothing. He was struggling,” he added.

Until early Saturday, the real cause of his death was yet to be disclosed with two theories still doing round. Some point at suicide due to depression as some think he was thrown from a highrise building (7th floor).

His body was discovered at Ngara’s Fig Tree area near Jubilee Headquarters neighboring Nairobi Studios owned by Mash Mjukuu. Mjukuu confirmed that he(Dennis) had just left a recording session when they heard a thud sound. He probably stormed from the studio and threw himself down a seven floor city building.

His twin brother’s statement indicated that the late artist could have threw himself from Kirima Building located in Panagani.

The singer has brushed with death two times in his life when he was attacked by gangs in his Eastland residence, an incident that left him half dead before afew months later was again involved in a deadly road crash that left his car completely written off.

Dennis who started his career in music at Maliza Umaskini Foundation, was according to an interview video, planning to escape to Dallas USA citing tough economic times. In 2019, he bragged of having sh.50 million in his 3 bank accounts spread across the country.

The Nashukuru singer was found on Northview Road in Pangani yesterday(Friday) night. He has left behind  4 siblings including a twin brother.  His mother died in 2006.
