Deputy President William Ruto and his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta continued to display their differences in the public after the announcement of the death of former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.

After news of Moi’s death was officially announced, Uhuru who was abroad in the US for what was termed as a breakfast prayer meeting alongside his new-found ally Raila Odinga, sent his condolence message through his powerful Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i instead of his deputy.

This, as some would say, was a downright display of their difference as the Deputy was the one who was supposed to step in for him if he was not around.

In his speech, DP Ruto sarcastically mounded praises on President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi saying he was a leader who demonstrated democracy by submitting himself to presidential term limit as prescribed in law.

“He submitted himself to presidential term limit graciously entering into a dignified retirement,” Ruto read his speech.

The DP, in a likely thin-veiled-attack to Uhuru also mentioned how the late Mzee Moi took his work seriously than engage into sideshows.

Ruto said Moi sacrifised his comfort for the stability of the country, in what some thought, Ruto meant Uhuru was a person who did not prioritise the country’s needs.

This comes on the backdrop of claims that Mr. Kenyatta wants to stick unto power past his 2022 power line.
