“We further remind all our members and especially our grassroots officials that official communication on any matter is the responsibility of the secretary-general,” stated Mr. Sifuna.

Orange Democratic Movement ODM top officials have clashed over Nairobi County assembly politics.

Party’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Nairobi ODM Chairman George Aladwa on Wednesday Feb 19th faced each other over the looming impeachment of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

It started when Aladwa issued a statement that he claimed was the formal party position insinuating that ODM will not take part in any palns to impeach Sonko.

“I have been directed by the party leader Raila Odinga to advise the honourable members that the party is not supporting the move,” the statement from Alwadwa read in part.

“As such, you are hereby directed not to vote and/or append your signatures on any proposed impeachment unless advised otherwise,” he concluded.

Shortly after the statement, party’s Sec Gen Edwin Sifuna trashed Aladwa’s statement reducing it to just personal wishes which should be treated with the contempt it deserves.

Sifuna clarified how ODM party will not wade into county politics and that the role to impeach anyone at County level was squarely in the hands of MCAs.

He distanced both the party and Mr. Raila Odinga from such sideshows saying their table was full for now rather than thinking about Nairobi assembly. He also added that any statemenet from the party must come from secretary general.

“We further remind all our members and especially our grassroots officials that official communication on any matter is the responsibility of the secretary-general,” stated Mr. Sifuna.
