President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have suffered what some would call an irreparable political fallout.
Though some of the Deputy President’s allied MPs together with himself still hang on with hopes that it will happen a miracle and Mr. Kenyatta will remember the good days they had with him (Ruto), the writing is on the wall. In politics it doesn’t happen so. In fact any president in the world does not make decisions by himself. It is always presidential that he is advised to take actions.
Just like in marriage when a man gets peaced off, it is difficult for a woman to keep begging for a successful comeback. Simply put, it is easier for a man to beg a wife for forgiveness than it is for a woman to do so.
The above therefore begs the question that what exactly happened between the two ‘lovebirds’ or as some would call it ‘the dynamic duo’ of Uhuru and Ruto?
To start with, it was the coming in of Mr. Raila Odinga that made the waters murkier. William Ruto never envisaged this happening. It caught him by a surprise. If you can remember his 2013-2017 utterances, he never wanted anyone who was defeated at the ballot to move close to power. Shortly after ascending to power he became so hostile to the opposition by insulting and calling them all manner of names. Little did he know that power is short-lived. It happened and he is today too bitter.
Secondly, Ruto’s 2022 ambitions are so high that he is not able to be asked to sit down and wait. He wants power by all means and very fast. He believes Jubilee has a legacy he is supposed to ride on and not anyone else. His boss on the other hand is an irritated man over this stat eof affairs. In essence, Ruto broke all the principles of power what has made his boss Kenyatta and his aides quite suspicious and uncomfortable. He is a kind of a king maker who would give the king reasons to worry about.
Some would however say Ruto is supposed to be allowed to traverse the country the way he wants, yes that is okay but if their covenant was to also allow Uthe sitting president to work on his legacy without too much destruction and later on resurrect with Ruto campaigns then Ruto was supposed to calm. what was so difficult for Ruto to wait.
Thirdly, the idea of Ruto walking head high into Central region without his boss’ blessing rubbed Uhuru the wrong way. This is the reason that Ruto’s advisers never tale him. When they were campaigning in 2013 and 2017, Uhuru alone could never go to Rift Valley without Ruto, but here comes a situation where the deputy can do that to his friend Uhuru with reckless abandon. It is not proper. It only amounts to disrespect.
Last but not least, the many corruption cases that keeps cropping up on Ruto and his office must be another major reason Uhuru and his handlers think he is not fit for this position. Who knows Ruto better than Raila and Uhuru who have worked with him. Let’s not mention Cyrus Jirongo!
